Smartwork Workshop

Smartwork Workshop

The Smartwork workshop was organized in conjunction with the 13th International Joint Conference on Computational Intelligence (IJCCI 2021, www.ijcci.org). The design and realization of age-friendly living and working environments is a huge challenge being potentially facilitated by the implementation of smart, personalized and age-friendly working environments based on novel data-driven systems and services, exploiting the large number and variety of embedded devices that can merge unobtrusively and in natural ways using information and intelligence hidden in the network connecting these devices. The workshop invited contributions to advance the current research and technology in computational and artificial intelligence towards supporting older workers to remain healthy, professionally active and productive for longer.

Spark Works presented two papers on this workshop, on the topic “Computational intelligence applications in working environments; Unobtrusive and pervasive health monitoring at the workplace; Worker-centric systems and solutions”:

  • Smartwork: An IoT Enabled Unobtrusive Worker Health, Well-being and Functional Ability Monitoring Framework [1]

In this paper, we present the SmartWork software suite that aims at building a worker-centric Internet of Things enabled system for workability sustainability, integrating unobtrusive sensing and modelling of the worker state with a suite of novel services for context and worker-aware adaptive work support.

  • Cardio: An Edge-enabled Wearable ECG Vest for Office Worker’s Heart Condition Monitoring [2]

In this paper, we present a novel wearable ECG Vest that can help them monitor in real-time their known heart conditions while they work, reducing stress and fear. Its operation is simple enough for the device to be worn, as a normal jacket without the need to know where exactly to connect electrodes.
